Fasten your seat belts

Just a few months ago, the safety harnesses on Mia’s stroller and bouncy chair seemed almost ridiculous: as if she could even get herself out of those items!  Well, those days are gone, as her mobility is ever-increasing.  Check out this photo of her in her bouncy chair: she literally would have fallen out (presumably landing on her face?), had I not fastened the seat belt.

She has learned that, upon dropping an item of interest, she can see where it goes if she leans over far enough.  I tried coaxing her back to the ‘normal’ seated position, and she wasn’t really interested.  She was quite pleased with herself and this new-found ability.  I thought it was adorable so, at the risk of encouraging the behavior, grabbed the camera.

And, we introduced solid food!  After much debate, we decided to go with both mushed and sliced avocado.  We let her feed herself (both with her fingers and her spoon) and Papa also tried the traditional spooning food into her mouth with various results.  As is often the case, this first introduction to food was more play time and an opportunity to experience the new textures, but she did indeed swallow some of it.  The plan, subject to revision, is to stick with avocado for a few days to ensure there is no adverse reaction, then introduce the next food.  We have yet to decide what that will be.

After mealtime was over, Tico helps us clean up the floor and Mia.  Mia and Tico are becoming good friends.
