We’re doing both this summer. Baby is growing well and has about 9.5 weeks to go. Tomatoes are starting to ripen, as shown in this Tuesday night photo.
We have two varieties in this half barrel to my right: pink lady and another one (I forget at the moment…blaming that on pregnancy brain). Also some basil. They were planted in a mix of organic potting soil and and our own compost. They are almost as tall as I am! As you can see, they are very happy plants. These plants are heavy with tomatoes.
We also have some Roma tomatoes in the half barrel on my left. It was planted in an old mix (no new soil or fresh compost this year) with a baby lavender plant and herbs that survived winter in the same pot. They look a little small compared to the other varieties (but the lavender and herbs are flourishing). Still, they are doing well because those are 5 ripe Roma tomatoes I am holding in my hand. We ate half of them raw and put the rest in grilled cheese sandwiches…delicious.
Fresh tomatoes are excellent ingredients for growing babies. So glad it is the growing season so we have access to plenty of fresh produce for the Little Bean!
I haven’t really weighed in since Steph built this blog, but I want you all to know what a wonderful time we are having. Preparing and being ready for bringing a child into our lives is something that is hard to explain. The time with each other is not really that different, as we have had such a great time together for the last fifteen years. However, watching her grow and blossom through this pregnancy has been a beautiful time and continues to be so. I know that we have no idea of what changes we are going to experience, but I do know that we are ready for them. I look forward to being sleep deprived, overwhelmed, scattered, and in love with our new addition. As long as I get to do all these things with my partner in Stephanie, then this will be an amazing boat we will sail on through the rest of our days.
There are so many things that I can’t wait to experience with a child. All the things I’ve learned, I get to now share. My silly sense of humor has another recipient, perhaps my biggest fan (to be determined). All this love gets to travel to another level. I get to see Stephanie as a mother! I get to have someone call me Dad and know that I will always do everything to be the best and most present father I can be. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing than what we are now. We did wait longer than most do to begin this journey, but I’ve never felt so ready. Let’s do this!
I love you Stephanie!
Aaron
