We’re planning a homebirth. We’re going to set up a birthing tub in our living room. If all goes well (i.e., no complications during my pregnancy), I will give birth to our baby right here at home.
We understand that many of our friends, family, and colleagues are not familiar with the concept of homebirth, so I’ll try to shed some light on the subject here.
First, I want to reassure you that homebirths are perfectly safe. Several of our close friends have given birth in their own homes, with the help of professional midwives. Aaron and I are working with a well trained and experienced midwife, Jenny, who has attended over 800 births. She comes to our house for my prenatal visits and will come to our house when I go into labor.
I’ll be posting more information about homebirth and midwives over the next several months. For now, check out this link for basic info on homebirth: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/homebirth.html
